Today's idea - Floetics and Facepaint

Floetics excellent night of locally produced music, poetry, spoken word, drama and comedy return to night. They promise brilliant acts and lots of open mic slots, so if you're a budding wordsmith, this one's for you.

This month's is in aid of Brighton charity Hue Help and all funds raised will go straight towards furnishing a new orphanage in Hue Vietnam. The plan's too create a home for forty Vietnamese children - more info at Huehelp.org.uk

"There will be facepainting, coffee which = phwoar, colouring-in, and of course the inordinately anticipated and confundingly life-changing prize draw."

So, for a night of wordiness, expression, and happy locals, it sounds pretty good. They had us sold at colouring-in.

Today's idea - Floetics Birthday Jiggery-Pokery

Poetic Floetics returns tonight at its traditional spot of the RedRoaster Cafe after a break of a month-ish or a bit more. Today sees the event's third birthday and tonight should be an extra special one as they demand "a corwd of attentive and friendly faces to make them happy and content." So if you're into the brilliant bookings of musicians, wordsworths, and heavens forbid some good old birthday jiggery pokery, this is the one to head to.

"Hoorah. Who said poetry, music, and general arty-fart has no use in society?" they say.

Doors are at 8pm, it starts at 8:30pm. It's also quite busy and a few friends have been turned away before for their slackivity so we advice early or at least prompt arrival. It costs £3 and to grab a slot at the open mic to serenade the collective with your beat poetry, regular poetry, stories and such whatnot, be there even more promptly as it's first-come-first-served.

Today's idea - Hammer & Tongues' POETS vs MCs at Komedia

Noisy poetry tonight as tonight sees Hammer and Tongue come to Komedia. A favourite social haunt with something interesting and different; today fabled (well, of rather good reputation) Poets vs MCs 7th annual event comes to town. It's Bards vs Rappers which is far better than I can put it. With Rosy Carrick who is essentially fabulous as host, it's touted as Brighton's biggest monthly spoken word & slam event, so if you're a fan of Floetics this might be up your poetical alleyway.

Tickets are £3 and better booked in advance as I missed last year's when tickets sold out to the queue stretched out of Komedia and off down the road. Buy them here or be early and try your luck on the door. It starts at 7.30pm.
